Sensors

We use several types of sensors to trigger events within a prop. The two most common types are Lidar and an Ultrasonic sensor. These are used to measure distance and have the ability to turn on practical effects, SVG layers on a virtual prop or event in a physical prop.

Lidar - with BLE tags

Lidars are a great way of making a set or display interactive

Take our door entry system example above:

1) The distance between the asset and the prop is being measured.

2) Once a threshold is reached, SVG layers within the virtual prop are switched on.

3) The Lidar is paired with bluetooth tags, which identify each asset individually, which then turns on extra SVG layers in the virtual prop, which will now show the assets name.

The lidars we use typically have a range of 8 metres, but have a very narrow field of view at only 2.3 degrees.

If you are in need of a sensor that has a wider field of view then an Ultrasonic would be more advisable.

Ultrasonic

Ultrasonic sensors are able to deliver the same events and integration as a Lidar, but have a wider field of view. However, the most common sensor we use has a slightly shorter range of 4.5m.

If you are unsure which sensor is the best fit for you, we are happy to talk it through with you.
